AspiraDAC is pioneering the world’s first modular, scalable and solar-powered Direct Air Capture technology, removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and storing it in permanent geological reserves.

To achieve global and national targets of net zero by 2050, carbon dioxide removal with permanent storage will be essential, working in tandem with other solutions.

Australia is in a unique position to play a leading role in this Direct Air Capture (DAC) and AspiraDAC is working to harness its ideal conditions for solar energy and proximity to some of the world’s best geological sequestration sites.

We are also actively exploring other locations around the world with similar conditions to drive this emerging industry forward.

World's First Solar-Powered DAC unit

There are a variety of DAC projects around the world but they all require energy to operate. By utilising modular units and solar power, the AspiraDAC modules are unique in their ability to:

  1. Harness renewable solar resources onsite, without traditional power sources.

  2. Be placed in remote areas close to geological sequestration sites, not requiring any transportation of the captured CO2.

  3. Be manufactured at scale and create a pathway to cost reductions that mirrors what has been happening with renewable energy and in particular, solar.

  4. Are compact: They use less than 90% of the land needed to capture the same amount of CO2 in reforestation or other land-based carbon projects.

What is DAC?

Simply put, DAC is a form of carbon removal technology that uses advanced materials and/or chemical reactions to pull carbon dioxide, or CO2, out of the atmosphere. The captured CO2 can then be injected deep underground for sequestration in certain geologic formations.

To achieve global and national targets of net zero by 2050, carbon dioxide removal with permanent storage will be essential, working in tandem with other solutions. Even if CO2 emissions ceased today, there is already too much carbon in the atmosphere. While avoiding and reducing emissions is imperative, DAC technology plays an important role in sequestering and permanently storing CO2 which will need to continue long after our most carbon intensive activities have ceased.
